20 YEARS LATER, “9/11” REMINDS US TO BE KIND TO ONE ANOTHER
Former P & G executive, Glen Prasser was flying back from Europe when his plane was diverted to Gander, Newfoundland, because of the terrorist attacks on 9/11.
“The kindness of the people of Newfoundland was extraordinary,” Glen said. Never in my life did I think I’d be invited into a home to take a hot shower by people I didn’t know. Striking school bus drivers left their picket lines to transport us to wherever we needed to go.
As chronicled in the hit Broadway show, Come from Away, volunteers turned every gym, school and community center into a makeshift shelter for the “plane people”. After spending 32 hours aboard the airplane, Glen took refuge in a church and awoke to the smell of moose stew prepared by members of the church as well s donations of clothes, toiletry items, and other essentials.
